Introduction

The American School of Marrakesh is an independent college-preparatory school, committed to providing its students with a supportive, rigorous but balanced learning environment, enabling them to grow academically, civically, and socially.

Within its comprehensive, interdisciplinary, and liberal-arts oriented curriculum, ASM undertakes to challenge and assist students to become critical thinkers and lifelong self-directed learners,

preparing them for a rapidly changing global society. In partnership with parents, ASM’s highly qualified and motivated staff, strive to create an atmosphere of open communication and to enable each and every student to reach his/her full potential and to develop a lifelong love of learning.

The American School of Marrakesh was founded on several immutable principles, namely respect for classical education, a belief in one’s self and the benefits of community. These principles have guided us since our founding and are deeply imbedded in the ethos of ASM. While we respect these traditions, it is our goal to provide ASM students with the highest quality of education possible that will prepare them to be competitive and successful at the university level and beyond.

We believe in the individual abilities of every student, and it is our responsibility to help each child to achieve her/his fullest potential. We understand that students learn in different ways: we do our very best to address a variety of learning styles and vary our forms of assessment in the classroom.

Honesty, integrity, and respect are three values that guide our daily decisions at ASM. We believe not only in the academic development of our students, but also in the development of good character. We strive to work together with parents to develop children who are dedicated not only to improving themselves, but also to helping others. Opportunities for participation in community service projects are encouraged at both the elementary and secondary levels.

Message from the Head of School

We are proud of our program as it prepares our students to be successful in a university of their choice, and beyond. It is based on American standards and benchmarks, and I am pleased to report that our application for accreditation by the Middle States Association has been approved.

Our graduates attend some of the best universities in the United-States and other parts of the world and they are trilingual: English is introduced at age two, Classical Arabic in Grade one and French in Grade five. We believe that the study of several languages widens their horizons and prepares them to be productive citizens in today’s global society.

We take advantage of our beautiful facilities in the suburb of Marrakech to offer a co-curricular program that allows our students to develop their skills and interests in a wide range of fields. The program contributes greatly to our students’ integration in the local and international communities.

We select our staff with the greatest care: some of our teachers and other employees are recruited locally whereas others come from countries around the world. The cultural diversity of our staff and their passion for their profession contribute to enhancing our students’ educational experience.

To learn more about our school, I invite you to travel through our site but more importantly, to visit us: we will be delighted to take you for a tour of our school, to introduce you to our philosophy and program, and to answer your questions.

Jean Brugniau, Headmaster

School Curriculum

An independent private institution located on the outskirts of Marrakech, Morocco, ASM offers English-language, American-system education from kindergarten through 12th grade.

The school does not follow any specific curriculum. As the school tries to become a candidate for Accreditation Status through the Middle States Association, standards and curriculum are slowly being developed and put into place.

Students must take about 3 years of math, 4 years of English, 3 years of History, and 3 years of Science in order to graduate. Students must also take some French and/or Arabic classes to expand their language skills.
